I have Overcome the World

John 16:32-33 Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now
come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his
own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not
alone, because the Father is with me. These things
I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have
peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but
be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

In this message we see Jesus telling His followers to be of good cheer.
Jesus also mentions that they will endure trials and tribulations. But,
there will be peace if they remain faithful to God.

The peace we can have is accomplished thru Christ Jesus. Just as Jesus
trusted His Father, so we are to trust the Son of God. The Father has
put all things under the Son's feet.

Hebrews 2:7-8 Thou madest him a little lower than
the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour,
and didst set him over the works of thy hands: Thou
hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For
in that he put all in subjection under him, he left
nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not
yet all things put under him.

Here we see the Father placing the responsibility into the Son's hands.
Jesus came to do the will of His Father. He became a perfect sacrifice
and role model for us to follow.

Mark 14:36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are
possible unto thee; take away this cup from me:
nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.

The cup that Jesus took was the Father's plan for our pathway to the
Father. Jesus had to die as a sacrifice for the sins of the world, that
all who would believe could be saved. Jesus completed this task when He
died, was buried, and then rose again on the third day. He ascended to
the right hand of the Father and He is our only hope for eternal life.

I John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God,
because he laid down his life for us: and we ought
to lay down our lives for the brethren.

The example that Jesus gave us was to follow Him. This means death to
our plans and goals. We now live for what God instructs us to do. We
are to lay down our lives for the brethren.

The peace that Jesus promised to those who believe in Him is amazing to
say the least. When Jesus died He made peace for us with the Father. Our
sins have totally separated us from the Father. We are guilty before a
Holy God. The penalty for sin is death. The judgment for sin is eternal
punishment in hell. The sin must be paid for.

When Jesus died He took our sins upon Himself and washed our sins in His
own blood. He became a propitiation (a substitute) in our behalf. We were
crucified with Him. When He rose from the dead we rose with Him in spirit
(theoretically) to life eternal.

The peace that Jesus gives is that He conquered death for us. This new
birth gives us life and a pathway to the Father who is perfect and Holy.
Without the love of God we are dead in our trespasses and sin. But Jesus
has paid the penalty and we can have eternal life through Him.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give
unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you.
Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be
afraid.

Romans 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were
reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more,
being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

We have been reconciled to God by the finished work of Jesus Christ. The
devil has lost the battle with our souls. Not only did Jesus pay the
price for our sins, He also is coming back and will destroy the works of>
the devil.

Jesus has overcome the world. We are to put our trust in Him alone. No
matter what we face in life, Jesus is our hope and salvation. We can rest
in Him for He is worthy and deserving of our praise and worship.

It is easy to be discouraged when things are not going the way we wanted.
Life seems to throw the kitchen sink at us at times. But as Jesus said "I
have overcome the world".

The world represents the devil's system of things. Our battle ultimately
is with the devil and all of his cohorts. The devil will use every means
possible to turn our hearts from God. Fortunately, we have a savior that
has conquered this enemy of ours. Once again Scripture gives us the insight.

Revelation 17:12-14 And the ten horns which thou
sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom
as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the
beast. These have one mind, and shall give their
power and strength unto the beast. These shall make
war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them:
for he is LORD OF LORDS, and KING OF KINGS: and they
that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was
cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the
beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented
day and night for ever and ever.

The devil is a defeated enemy. His final destination will be the Lake of
fire. We can be of "good cheer" because of this fact. There is no need to
be walking around with our heads down. We shall overcome with Him! To God
be all the glory!
